POETRY: For A New Home, by John O’Donohue

December 12, 2012

May this house shelter your life. When you come home here, May all the weight of the world Fall from your shoulders. May your heart be tranquil here, Blessed by peace the world cannot give. May this home be a lucky place, Where the graces your life desires Always find the pathway to your door. May nothing destructive Ever cross your threshold. May this be a safe place Full of understanding and acceptance, Where you can be as you are, Without the need of any mask Of pretense or image. May this home be a place of discovery, Where the possibilities that sleep In the clay of your soul can emerge To deepen and refine your vision For all that is yet to come to birth. May it be a house of courage, Where healing and growth are loved, Where dignity [...]

POETRY: For a New Beginning, by John O’Donohue

December 12, 2012

In out-of-the-way places of the heart, Where your thoughts never think to wander, This beginning has been quietly forming, Waiting until you were ready to emerge. For a long time it has watched your desire, Feeling the emptiness growing inside you, Noticing how you willed yourself on, Still unable to leave what you had outgrown. It watched you play with the seduction of safety And the gray promises that sameness whispered, Heard the waves of turmoil rise and relent, Wondered would you always live like this. Then the delight, when your courage kindled, And out you stepped onto new ground, Your eyes young again with energy and dream, A path of plenitude opening before you. Though your destination is not yet clear You can trust the promise of [...]

POETRY: A Blessing For One Who Is Exhausted, by John O’Donohue

December 12, 2012

When the rhythm of the heart becomes hectic, Time takes on the strain until it breaks; Then all the unattended stress falls in On the mind like an endless, increasing weight, The light in the mind becomes dim. Things you could take in your stride before Now become laborsome events of will. Weariness invades your spirit. Gravity begins falling inside you, Dragging down every bone. The tide you never valued has gone out. And you are marooned on unsure ground. Something within you has closed down; And you cannot push yourself back to life. You have been forced to enter empty time. The desire that drove you has relinquished. There is nothing else to do now but rest And patiently learn to receive the self You have forsaken for the race of days. [...]

POETRY: A Blessing Of Angels, by John O’Donohue

December 12, 2012

May the Angels in their beauty bless you. May they turn toward you streams of blessing. May the Angel of Awakening stir your heart To come alive to the eternal within you, To all the invitations that quietly surround you. May the Angel of Healing turn your wounds Into sources of refreshment. May the Angel of the Imagination enable you To stand on the true thresholds, At ease with your ambivalence And drawn in new direction Through the glow of your contradictions. May the Angel of Compassion open your eyes To the unseen suffering around you. May the Angel of Wildness disturb the places Where your life is domesticated and safe, Take you to the territories of true otherness Where all that is awkward in you Can fall into its own rhythm. May [...]
