HYMN: Loving Shepherd Of Thy Sheep by Jane Elizabeth Leeson

April 15, 2018

1 Loving Shepherd of Thy sheep, Keep Thy lamb, in safety keep; Nothing can Thy power withstand; None can pluck me from Thy hand. 2 Loving Savior, Thou didst give Thine own life that we might live; And the hands outstretched to bless Bear the cruel nails’ impress. 3 We would praise Thee every day, Gladly all Thy will obey, Like Thy blessed ones above Happy in Thy precious love. 4 Loving Shepherd, ever near, Teach Thy lambs Thy voice to hear; Suffer not our steps to stray From the strait and narrow way. 5 Where Thou leadest we would go, Walking in Thy steps below, Till before our Father’s throne We shall know as we are known. PRAYER: A Hymn Of Praise by An Irish Monk

September 4, 2017

Hail to you, glorious Lord! May chancel and church praise you, May plain and hillside praise you, May the three springs praise you, Two higher than the wind and one above the Earth, May darkness and light praise you, May the cedar and sweet fruit-tree praise you. Abraham praised you, the founder of faith, May life everlasting praise you, May the birds and bees praise you, May the stubble and the grass praise you. Aaron and Moses praised you, May male and female praise you, May the seven days and the stars praise you, May the lower and upper air praise you, May books and letters praise you, May the fish in the river praise you, May thought and action praise you, May the sand and the earth praise you, May all the good things created praise [...]

PRAYER: Ultán’s Hymn To Brigit

May 5, 2014

From Celtic Spirituality / Author unknown Brigit, woman ever excellent, golden, radiant flame, Lead us to the eternal kingdom, the brilliant, dazzling sun. May Brigit guide us past crowds of devils, May she break before us the attack of every plague. May she destroy within us the taxes of our flesh, The branch with blossoms, the mother of Jesus. The true virgin, easy to love, with great honor, I shall be forever safe with my saint of Leinster. One of the columns of the land with Patrick preeminent, The adornment above, the royal queen. May our bodies when we are old be in sackcloth, From her grace may Brigit rain on us. We pray to Brigit by the praise of Christ That we may be worthy of the heavenly kingdom.   [...]

POETRY: The Eucharistic Hymns Of Thomas Aquinas

February 26, 2014

Pange Lingua Gloriosi Corporis Mysterium Tell, tongue, the mystery of the glorious Body and of the precious Blood, which, for the price of the world, the fruit of a noble Womb, the King of the Nations poured forth. Given to us, born for us, from the untouched Virgin, and dwelt in the world after the seed of the Word had been scattered. His inhabiting ended the delays with wonderful order. On the night of the Last Supper, reclining with His brethren, once the Law had been fully observed with the prescribed foods, as food to the crowd of Twelve He gives Himself with His hands. The Word as Flesh makes true bread into flesh by a word and the wine becomes the Blood of Christ. And if sense is deficient to strengthen a sincere heart Faith alone [...]

HYMNS: The Irish Book Of Hymns by Pádraig Ó Macháin

July 4, 2013

From Treasures of Irish Christianity: People and Places, Images and Texts, Salvador Ryan and Brendan Leaky, editors The Liber Hymnorum, the Book of Hymns, survives in two manuscript copies from the eleventh century.  It is an anthology of prayers and hymns that formed part of the liturgy of the medieval Irish Church.  Most of the hymns are associated with native saints or church personages.  A small handful is attributed to more universal figures such as the Virgin Mary, Saint Zachariah, and Saint Hilary. Most of the thirty-four hymns are in Latin.  They include the earliest surviving poem (fifth century) composed in that language in either Ireland or Britain.  This is Saint Sechnall’s hymn praising Saint Patrick’s missionary [...]

HYMN: Sweet Hour of Prayer by William W. Walford

June 13, 2013

Sweet hour of prayer, sweet hour of prayer, That calls me from a world of care, And bids me at my Father’s throne, Make all my wants and wishes known! In seasons of distress and grief My soul has often found relief, And oft escaped the tempter’s snare, By thy return, sweet hour of prayer. Sweet hour of prayer, sweet hour of prayer, The joys I feel, the bliss I share Of those whose anxious spirits burn With strong desires for thy return! With such I hasten to the place Where God, my Savior, shows His face, And gladly take my station there, And wait for thee, sweet hour of prayer. Sweet hour of prayer, sweet hour of prayer, Thy wings shall my petition bear To Him, whose truth and faithfulness Engage the waiting soul to bless: And [...]

HYMN: Savior, Like a Shepherd Lead Us

April 23, 2013

Attributed to Dorothy A. Thrupp Savior, like a shepherd lead us, Much we need thy tender care; In thy pleasant pastures feed us, For our use thy folds prepare: Blessed Jesus, blessed Jesus! Thou hast bought us, thine we are. We are thine, do thou befriend us, Be the guardian of our way; Keep thy flock, from sin defend us, Seek us when we go astray: Blessed Jesus, blessed Jesus! Hear, O hear us, when we pray. Thou hast promised to receive us, Poor and sinful though we be; Thou hast mercy to relieve us, Grace to cleanse and power to free: Blessed Jesus, blessed Jesus! We will early turn to thee. Early let us seek thy favor, Early let us do thy will; Blessed Lord and only Savior, With thy love our bosoms fill: Blessed Jesus, blessed Jesus! [...]
