Written during his final imprisonment

O Heavenly Father, the Father of all wisdom, understanding, and true strength, I beseech thee, for thy only Son our Savior Jesus Christ’s sake, look mercifully upon me, wretched creature, and send thine Holy Spirit into my breast; that not only I may understand according to thy wisdom, how this temptation is to be borne off, and with what answer it is to be beaten back; but also, when I must join to fight in the field for the glory of thy holy name, that then I being strengthened with the defense of thy right hand, may manfully stand in the confession of thy faith, and of thy truth, and may continue in the same unto the end of my life; through the same our Lord Jesus Christ.
