PRAYER: The Liturgy Of Saint James

The Liturgy Of Saint James

From The Apostolic Constitutions

Almighty God, whose glory the heavens are telling, the Earth his power, and the sea his might, and whose greatness all feeling and thinking creatures everywhere herald; to you belongs glory, honor, might, greatness, and magnificence now and for ever, to the ages of ages, through Jesus Christ our Lord.  Amen.

O Lord our God, the bread from Heaven, the food of the whole universe, I have sinned against Heaven, and before you, and I am not worthy to receive your most holy mysteries.  But, in your compassion, grant me by your grace uncondemned to partake of your holy body and your precious blood, to remission of sins and life eternal.  Amen.

Let all mortal flesh keep silent,
and stand with fear and trembling,
and in itself consider nothing of Earth;
for the King of kings and Lord of lords cometh forth to be sacrificed,
and given as food to the believers;
and there go before Him the choirs of Angels,
with every dominion and power,
the many-eyed Cherubim and the six-winged Seraphim,
covering their faces, and crying out the hymn:
Alleluia, Alleluia, Alleluia.

From glory to glory advancing, we praise thee, O Lord;
Thy name with the Father and Spirit be ever adored.
From strength unto strength we go forward on Zion’s highway,
To appear before God in the city of infinite day.
Thanksgiving, and glory and worship, and blessing and love,
One heart and one song have the saints upon Earth and above.
Ever more, O Lord, to thy servants thy presence be nigh;
Ever fit us by service on Earth for thy service on high.

Remember, O Lord, the souls of those who have kept the faith, both those whom we remember and those whom we remember not, and grant them rest in the land of the living, in the joy of paradise, whence all pain and grief have fled away, where the light of your countenance shines for ever; and guide in peace, O Lord, the end of our lives so as to be Christian and well-pleasing to you; gathering us around your throne, when you will and as you will, only without shame and sin; through your only-begotten Son our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ.  Amen.

Grant, almighty God, that the words, which we have heard this day with our outward ears, may through thy grace be so grafted inwardly in our hearts, that they may bring forth in us the fruit of good living, to the honor and praise of thy name; through Jesus Christ our Lord.  Amen.
