The Leprosy Mission Prayer
Almighty Father, the giver of life and health, look mercifully on those who suffer from leprosy. Stretch out your hand to touch and heal them as Jesus did during his earthly life. Grant wisdom and insight to those who are seeking the prevention and cure of the disease; give skill and sympathy to those who minister to the patients; reunite the separated with their families and friends; and inspire your people with the task set before The Leprosy Mission, that it may never lack either the staff or the means to carry on its healing work, in accordance with your will, and to the glory of your holy name.
We ask this for the sake of Jesus Christ your Son, our Lord.
Pray for the people of Bangladesh, that they will know peace and not fear, after recent unrest in the country.
Pray for a new Leprosy Mission project being set up for the Chittagong Hill tracts, that new partnerships with organisations and new ways of working with the government will be fruitful.
Please pray for the safety and protection of Leprosy Mission staff in Ethiopia, their families, people affected by leprosy, and the wider community in the capital Addis Ababa and Amhara Region where much of our work continues.
Pray for the country during this season of political instability. Please pray for wisdom for the government and for positive, mutually beneficial relationships between government officials and Leprosy Mission staff.
Give thanks for the incredible dedication and commitment of Leprosy Mission staff and partners as they continue to serve people affected by leprosy, their families and communities.
Give thanks for the opportunities we have to raise awareness of leprosy; celebrate the achievements of people affected by leprosy and to raise funds for the work of The Leprosy Mission through World Leprosy Day (29 January) and World Leprosy Sunday. In 2017 The Leprosy Mission England and Wales is raising funds for a new Outpatients Department at Purulia Hospital in West Bengal. Pray for a generous response to the campaign.
The Leprosy Mission has worked in Purulia since 1888 and the hospital now treats around 75,000 people annually from the area as well as 100,000 people who are reached by community health education programs. Pray for the hospital staff as they prepare for building work to start. Pray that there will be the minimum of disruption and that they will be able to continue to provide the wide range of services.
Give thanks for the generous support for 2015’s Feet First campaign, that has already enabled The Leprosy Mission to help 5,000 people affected by leprosy and disability in northern Mozambique.
Pray that the Feet First project will have a huge impact on changing agricultural practices for subsistence farmers affected by leprosy. Pray also that the land will be well-prepared before the rains come and the planting season begins and for God’s blessing on the harvest.
Pray for new members of staff at The Leprosy Mission Myanmar; that they would quickly settle into their new roles and be a blessing to colleagues. Give thanks for Katie, the new Disability Inclusion Advisor.
Please pray for the Disability Rights project workshops taking place with six different ministries in Yangon and Mandalay, that they will start good discussions and motivate advocacy work.
Please pray for the reconstruction work taking place at Anandaban Hospital in Nepal after the devastating 2015 earthquakes. Please pray for God’s blessing on the reconstruction work that is ongoing and pray that there will be no more delays, as the start of work in 2015 was delayed by fuel shortages and the rainy season. Pray also that it will not impede the day to day running of the hospital and that the climate and political situation in the country not affect its progress.
Give thanks for the rainy season in Niger. Pray that the rains will be consistent and not wash away the soil and that the crops will grow well and produce a good harvest.
Pray for wisdom for the Leprosy Mission team as it tries to reinforce its partnership with the government towards its leprosy control program to enhance leprosy awareness and supervision of regional health centers.
Pray for constructive meetings and activities with partners – a multidisciplinary team which includes CSL Danja and the International Association for Integration Dignity and Economic Advancement (IDEA) – as they discuss the technical and strategic issues surrounding leprosy work in Niger.
Pray for The Leprosy Mission Nigeria as they seek to engage the leadership of large churches and encourage them to include World Leprosy Day in their calendars. Pray that relationships will be vibrant and that churches will sustain their involvement.
Pray for our staff as they work towards their vision seeing people affected by leprosy living meaningful lives, independent and empowered to take full responsibility for their futures, advocate for their human rights and contribute to the development of a more inclusive society.
Pray for the safety and protection of Leprosy Mission staff Mary and Wilson, based in Juba, and for the protection of people affected by leprosy in Luri Rokwe and Malek villages.
Pray that there will be enough food for the people as South Sudan is currently experiencing a humanitarian crisis following the conflict that has displaced many people.
Give thanks that God is continuing His amazing work in Sri Lanka and that a core team of pastors and other partners have agreed to work together to raise awareness about leprosy across Sri Lanka.
Pray for continuing unity in the team as they move forward with this, and for an openness for pastors to work with other faiths. As this happens, pray for God to build peace as they work together.
Please pray also that the government in each district will work closely with the interfaith forum to address leprosy.
Pray that communities across Sri Lanka will have greater awareness about leprosy and people will come forward for early treatment through this partnership.
Pray that The Leprosy Mission Sudan will know God’s favor to obtain the required approval from the government to fill a staffing position. Pray that the right person will hear God’s call on his/her life and be moved to apply.
Pray for God’s protection over John, the team’s leprosy control supervisor, as he helps people affected by leprosy to speak up for their rights.
