PRAYER: Meditation On The Lord’s Prayer by Sue Weddell

Meditation On The Lord's Prayer Sue Weddell

Help me, my Father, I pray, to comprehend more fully the prayer your son has taught me.  Give me an understanding of every petition.

I have prayed, “Hallowed be your name.”  May I understand that all my relationships, my struggles and temptations, my dreams and desires must be endowed with reverence.  Direct my powers in dignity and quietness.  May my every action be in your name.

I have prayed, “Your kingdom come.”  Help me to remember that your kingdom will come upon the Earth as fist one soul and then another submits to your rules of life.  Help me to say, unreservedly, “Here I am, use me.”

My Father, I have prayed, “Your will be done on Earth as it is in Heaven.”  Help me to enter into a new and deeper relationship with you, knowing that only as my small purpose becomes part of your great purpose, can I share in your redemption of the world.  May I be willing to say, “Not my will, but yours be done.”

My Father, I have prayed, “Give us this day our daily bread.”  Help me to know that you will supply my every meal.  Above all, I pray that you give me your rich, unfailing gifts of the living waters and the living bread.

My Father, I have prayed, “Forgive us our trespasses as we forgive those who trespass against us.”  I need to be reminded that my sins are forgiven only as I forgive others, that the gifts I bring to your altar can be offered only if I am at peace with my brothers.

My Father, I have prayed, “Lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil.”  May I know with certainty that in the frictions, the ceaseless demands, the clashes of wills which engulf us I may turn to you as my sure bulwark.  Lead me, my Father, out of fear and confusion, into your peace.
